It is hard to describe the messy fun that plaster of Paris involves. Needless to say, I have not a single photo of us in action. Too much wet, mushy, gooshey plaster on my hands to pick up a camera.
The littlest members were convinced we were making slime again, until it hardened into a rock, or a hundred tiny rocks as the case may be. Some of the more daring members tried making plaster paintings, others made small candles placed in molds, but my favorite was by far the bowls made of cloth dipped in the plaster. The lace was beautiful, and the thick light fleece worked like a charm. This could be the follow-up for sure. Next week we will do an activity making something for Mother's day. Thanks to Daveon for the inspired idea!

What a wonderful opening week it has been, and I am filled with hope and gratitude for all the possibilities ahead. We had more than four new families participate, and some of our old regulars even returned. The activities were filled with discovery and enthusiasm. Looking at the future of the Art Garage, we plan to invite some local artists to help share their experiences in the world of art, and teach us some valuable skills and share some new techniques. RETURN TO OUR REGULAR SCHEDULE: We will now be open on our regular schedule, which is 3 until 6PM on Wednesdays. The first day started with the finding of the first 4-leaf clover of the year. Always a favorite moment of mine. My neighbor Melody came by early and helped set up and made the first paper of the day. Then the younger crew arrived and we made several pieces of homemade paper. This was followed by painting, a dance party, hide and seek, repelling down the tree, and a lot of cheese ball eating. The next day came and went with plenty of fun and discovery. Tie dye is a process requiring patience and care. The girls each made a shirt and we dyed the cover-up shirts too. |
