So I held a memorial to keep her memory alive in all of our hearts. She was the connector of the family, and without her, I can only be a pale imitation. Still, it was a good gathering, both in the real and in the virutal via Zoom. My dad and step-mom were true soul-mates, and last year for their anniversary I published Sue's blog. This year I created resin panels to sit inside the window looking over my parents ashes. They didn't exactly look like my sister's inspired designs, but I did my best. They are a lovely tribute, and I know my dad and Sue would love them. The Art Garage is not just for the kids. I love doing art, and love sharing that fun with the kids. Resin is especially satisfying. It has a life of its own. It is not surprising that I love using materials that create the art. I am a big believer in the power of nature. In life, allowing things to unfold naturally always beats the desire to control the outcome. I just need to hold true to the vision, and let nature do the magic.

It seems like so long since I have posted anything here. The Art Garage has taken second fiddle lately to an inspired project that I have been asked to collaborate on with the school district. They are looking for ways to meet the needs of the non-traditional learner and have asked me to help design a classroom that will include music and movement and the arts to inspire learning. I was shocked and so excited. I have created a curriculum based on a neurosequential developmental approach. It is called Holistic Neuroeducation. It is so exciting to see it come to fruition. What a daring move by this administration! Kudos to Dr. Kherat. Now the work begins. On a lighter note (pun intended)... The Art Garage got new lights, and it looks beautiful. A good friend of the Art Garage, Woody came to install everything. He will put in some outlets as we move to doing more computer work this Fall. At the Art Garage, we started working on one of the member's personal project. He had initially said he wanted to be an artist, I noticed, however, that he was more interested in the computers. So we tied the two together and he became a video-grapher and movie maker. So far we have the plot done and the title recorded. Full movie will be shared soon. You can see our director is already preparing for the paparazzi Maybe because the first phase of the HNE approach is to engage students in sensory experiences around the content they will be entering into, I decided to take a break from the movie and engage the request of the girls to make some bathbombs. The boys were just as enthusiastic and made their own blends-- banana-peppermint, wintergreen-peppermint, and blueberry-peppermint. Yum. You wouldn't think the peppermint would blend so well with the fruit, but it smells delicious.
The girls chose more fruity flavors, tangerine, palmarosa, apple and sweet orange. The best thing about making bath bombs is that you can share. Melody and Stuart came out on this nice day and got a plate of their own. Did I say the best part was sharing? Well, actually the best part is taking the bath. My first tester was the sweet orange-pettigrain. Delicious. I can't wait to try them all. |
